5 Millennial Articles to Read this Week- Round Up #11
Happy President’s Day!
Both Erik and Steph are lucky and have the day off! We hope that you do too, but if not, maybe a vacation is planned for soon and you can get some rest and relaxation in.
Each Monday, one of the Simple Minded Millennial co-hosts rounds up 5 amazing articles from the past week. It’s Erik’s turn this week.
Here are 5 articles that Erik loved this week – we will turn it over to him now:
1.) House Hacking With Airbnb – Recapping My Third Year of Airbnb House Hacking by Financial Panther
House hacking has been one of my big money wins in my 20’s and it’s awesome to see other people doing awesome stuff with house hacking!
Kevin from Financial Panther recaps his third year of AirBnBing a room in his house. In 2018, he covered 87% of his total housing expense with AirBnB! How crazy is that!?!
Check out his article for some inspiration to possibly rent out empty and unused space in your house!
2.) Positive Disintegration (a 5 part series) by Savvy History
The human mind and how humans behave are very interesting things to me, and I love reading and learning about different psychological frameworks.
Savvy History is breaking down the Theory of Positive Disintegration in a dense, but highly informative 5 part series.
What’s awesome about this series is how Saavy History ties it personal finance and self improvement.
3.) Optimize Your Life’s Interview on Ms. Zi You’s Blog
I’ve met Matt at two different FinCon’s and have to say, he is an impressive guy with a lot going for him. It was really cool to read his responses to Ms. ZiYou’s questions in this interview series on her blog, and I learned a few things more which I didn’t know before.
While I don’t agree fully with all of his opinions, what I appreciate is his willingness to challenge the status quo, challenge other people’s thoughts, and hold true to his perspective.
CRITICAL THINKING and figuring out your perspective on the world through experience and learning is so much more important than just going along with whatever you hear on the news or from your friends.
4.) 25 Things to Consider Regarding Your Tax Refund, by How To FIRE
Maybe you’ve already finished your taxes, maybe you are just getting started. Maybe you had to pay in, or maybe you are getting a tax refund.
If are you have already received or are going to receive a tax refund, there are some smart things to do with it and some stupid (AKA simple minded) things to do with it.
In this article by How to FIRE, you’ll learn all of the things you need to think about before going on vacation or splurging on that new gadget after getting your tax refund.
5.) The One Percent Rule: Easy Math to Evaluate Rental Properties, by Wealthy Nickel
Rental real estate has made a lot of people rich throughout the years and is something which is an interest of both mine and Steph’s.
In real estate (as well as any other investment), you make money when you BUY – as opposed to when you sell. By selecting and buying properties which meet a certain criteria, you can set yourself up to make more money at the end of the day, rather than relying on outside forces such as appreciation and market trends.
This post dives into the one percent rule of real estate and is a great resource for people interested in real estate.
